Ms Tandy Pok

Tandy-Pok
Position: Associate Forensic Engineer
Expertise: Accident Reconstruction, Incident Analysis, Workplace Safety, Research
Qualifications: B. Eng. (Hons, Mechanical & Manufacturing), MIEAust, Associate Member SAE-A.

Tandy joined Delta-V Experts (DVE) in June 2008.  Tandy graduated in 2007 from the University of Melbourne with an Honours degree in Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering.  Her team’s final year major project won the “Best Commercial Potential” award for the “Modelling and Design of a Water Distillation System”.

During the course of her work at DVE, Tandy has been involved in the investigation, review and research of over 150 collision and workplace incident reports.  These include: vehicle collisions (pedestrians, bicycles, motorbikes, passenger vehicles, trucks and trains), industrial equipment (conveyor belts and processing equipment), mining equipment (surface and underground), road design issues, lines of sight, destructive/non-destructive testing and occupational health and safety issues.  Many of these cases involved traumatic and serious injuries and fatalities.

Tandy conducts methodical evidence collection as part of documenting a collision or incident scene.  She has attended over 100 site and vehicle inspections.  This may include measurements, photographs and videos, and also a detailed survey which is the converted into clear and concise drawings/diagrams for presentations and reports.

At DVE, Tandy also conducts objective vehicle handing and rollover propensity evaluation.  The objective of the methodology enables clients to quantitatively assess vehicle handling as part of a procurement process.  Several Australian Federal Government Departments, Australian Police Forces, State Government Departments and Ergon Energy, have and are utilising this methodology to objectively quantify their vehicle procurements, evaluate suspension options and evaluate their risk exposure.

Tandy along with colleagues at Delta-V Experts has developed a performance specification for protecting roadside utility poles (such as power and traffic light poles).

Tandy has worked with V/Line Passenger, Victoria’s largest provider of passenger rail and coach services, while completing her degree.  Working in the Regional Network and Access Division, Tandy was part of a team engaged in the implementation of an integrated maintenance management system for over 4000 kilometres of rail track.  She was assessed competent in “Train Track Awareness Level 1” by the Victorian Train Safety Accreditation.

Tandy has completed the “Technical Accident Investigation & Reconstruction Course” hosted by the Society of Automotive Engineers Australasia.  This course included the following topics of study: Introduction to collision reconstruction, Inspection of scene, Vehicle condition and inspection, Thrust diagrams, Light and glass analysis, Debris inspection, Tyre marks and gouges inspection, Friction and friction measuring devices, Resultant drag factor and effective factor, Measurements and diagrams, Geodimeter and Total Survey Station, Photographs, Analysis of speed from skid, yaw, flips and vaults, Trucks collisions, Articulated vehicle collisions, Tachographs and trip computers, Pedestrian collision reconstruction, Vehicle speed estimate formulae, Motorcycle collision reconstruction, Dynamics, Time and distance analysis, Acceleration, Energy, Damage, Vehicle stiffness, Conservation of momentum, Rear impacts, Head on impacts and intersection collisions.

Tandy also successfully completed the “Advanced Crash Reconstruction Utilizing Human Factors Research Course” hosted by the Australasian and South Pacific Association of Collision Investigators.  This course included the following topics of study: Speed choice, Ability to discern, Search patterns and attention, Pedestrian walking speeds, Driver acceleration, Perception and response time, Driver response to potential hazards (hazard anticipation), Leg and hand movement times, Braking time, Glance times (on and off road), Start-up time, Red light turning, Deceleration rate (non-emergency), Gap acceptance, Motion parallax and looming, Lateral acceleration, Courtroom display size, Alcohol, Age, Fatigue and Experience.  The course also contained a practical component that included documenting crash tests between a car and a bicycle with a dummy, as well as headlight mapping and recognition distances at night.  The course presented the use of I.DRR and V*Star software from Crash Safety Solutions.  Tandy is acquainted with these software packages.

Tandy is a Member of the Institution of Engineers Australia as well as the Society of Automotive Engineers Australasia.  Tandy is currently the Secretary of the Overseas Qualified Engineers Group, Engineers Australia.

As part of DVE's ongoing commitment to offering the highest quality of service, Tandy regularly attends technical seminars and courses.  She also assists with the professional development of undergraduate students by providing support and mentoring, from various engineering fields.

Tandy possesses a broad interest range and varied skill set, including her fluency in multiple languages.  Tandy brings a keen interest and a fresh perspective to the team.
