Mr Nikola Josevski

Nikola Josevski

Position: Associate Forensic Engineer
Expertise: Accident Reconstruction, Incident Analysis, Biomechanics and Injury, Workplace Safety, Research
Qualifications: BE(BiomedEng)(Hons), GradIEAust, Associate Member SAE-A.

Nikola Josevski joined Delta-V Experts (DVE) as a final-year undergraduate student in January 2008 whilst completing his degree. Nikola graduated in 2008 from the University of Melbourne with a degree in Biomedical Engineering (Biomechanics). His final year joint major project titled “Investigation into Neck Injuries in Vehicle Rollover” was completed in collaboration with the University of New South Wales and the School of Risk and Safety Sciences. The project investigated issues of neck injury during vehicle rollovers and the biofidelity of the current Hybrid III Anthropometric Testing Dummy (ATD) and the Euro SID-2 ATD. The project involved extensive literature review and research, as well as the use of “MADYMO” (Mathematical Dynamic Modelling) software package. Nikola has basic knowledge of MADYMO.

Nikola’s work at DVE has involved active assistance, investigation, review, research and contribution to the preparation of over 100 traffic collision and workplace incidents reports, mainly in the following areas: single vehicle collisions (both light and heavy), multiple vehicle collisions (both light and heavy), pedestrian impacts, bicycle impacts, crashworthiness, collision damage, industrial and mining collisions/incidents, lines of sight, road design issues, reconstructive testing, workplace incidents and injuries, safe methods of work, occupational health and safety and workplace safety. Many of these cases involved traumatic and serious injuries and fatalities.

Nikola along with colleagues at Delta-V Experts has developed a performance specification for protecting roadside utility poles (such as power and traffic light poles).

Nikola attended over 100 site and vehicle inspections. The sites and cars were inspected, photographed and measured. Many of these inspections involved the conduction of site and vehicle surveys, mapping this information in 3-dimensional space and producing and presenting the results as clear, concise, scaled and accurate drawings by using “Bentley Microstation” software package that Nikola is well acquainted with. Nikola is also acquainted with photo and graphics editing software package Adobe Photoshop as well as close range photogrammetry software package “iWitness.”

In addition to this, Nikola has actively assisted and contributed to DVE’s major projects carried out for the Australian Government Departments, Australian Police Forces, Ergon Energy, Victoria WorkCover Authority, and BHP Billiton, amongst others.

In February 2010 Nikola successfully completed the “Technical Accident Investigation and Reconstruction Course”, conducted by the Society of Automotive Engineers Australasia. This course included the following studies: Introduction to collision reconstruction, Inspection of scene, Vehicle condition and inspection, Thrust diagrams, Light and glass analysis, Debris inspection, Tyre marks and gouges inspection, Friction and friction measuring devices, Resultant drag factor and effective factor, Measurements and diagrams, Geodimeter and Total Survey Station, Photographs, Analysis of speed from skid, yaw, flips and vaults, Trucks collisions, Articulated vehicles collisions, Tachographs and trip computers, Pedestrian collision reconstruction, Vehicle speed estimate formulae, Motorcycle collision reconstruction, Dynamics, Time and distance analysis, Acceleration, Energy, Damage, Vehicle stiffness, Conservation of momentum, Rear impacts, Head on impacts and intersection collisions.

In April 2011 Nikola successfully completed the “Human Factors in Traffic Crashes Course”, conducted by Crash Safety Research Group (CSRG). This course included the following studies: Speed choice, Ability to discern, Search patterns and attention, Pedestrian walking speeds, Driver acceleration, Perception and response time, Driver response to potential hazards (hazard anticipation), Leg and hand movement times, Braking time, Glance times (on and off road), Start-up time, Red light turning, Deceleration rate (non-emergency), Gap acceptance, Motion parallax and looming, Lateral acceleration, Courtroom display size, Alcohol, Age, Fatigue and Experience. The course also contained a practical component that included Headlight Mapping and recognition distance and performing crash tests between a car and a bicycle with a dummy. The course presented the use of I.DRR software and V*Star software from Crash Safety Solutions. Nikola is acquainted with these software packages.

Nikola is a member of the Institution of Engineers Australia and an associate member of the Society of Automotive Engineers Australasia.

Nikola holds a current Victoria Heavy Vehicle Driver Licence (Licence Type: Car HR), and he has also successfully completed a one day DECA Advanced Car Training driving course.

As part of DVE’s ongoing commitment to offering the highest quality of service, Nikola regularly attends technical seminars and courses. He also assists with the professional development of undergraduate students from various engineering fields. Nikola brings a keen interest and a fresh perspective to the team. Nikola possesses a broad interest range and varied skill set, including his fluency in multiple languages. He is motivated to learn and excel in the field of Forensic Engineering.
