Dr Cubitt has provided expert evidence for litigation cases in Australia since 1988. Dr Cubitt has extensive experience in providing expert evidence in cases involving slip, trips and falls, manual handling, guarding of machines, fires and explosions.
Dr Cubitt has practiced as an engineer in manufacturing, design of cars, conducted research in fluid mechanics, bush fires and explosions, air-conditioning of military aircraft, and coastal engineering. He was a Lecturer in Engineering at the Ballarat CAE (now the University of Ballarat) and Professor of Engineering at the University of Washington (in Seattle) in the 1970s. In the 1980s and early 1990s he was the team leader in the development of the STRUCDES (Structural Design software); this software was sold by Standards Australia and was used by consulting engineers in Australia and the Pacific Nations.
For the past 15 years, Dr Cubitt has used his knowledge of the engineering sciences and the practice of engineering to prepare over 3400 forensic engineering reports. His expertise covers many areas, including slips, trips and falls, manual handling, occupational health and safety in the workplace and providing specialist advice on classification of goods being imported.
Dr Cubitt graduated from Footscray Technical College with a Diploma of Mechanical Engineering in 1964, from Monash University with a Bachelor of Engineering (Mech, Hons) (in 1968) and received his Doctor of Philosophy (in 1972).
Dr Cubitt is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia.
