Motorcycle Operator Training Assessor (MOTA) Print E-mail
Motorcycle riders are unprotected road users, and are heavily overrepresented in serious injuries and deaths on the roads. As a result, motorcycle riders need a far higher minimum level of competency to be able to safely negotiate the hazardous road environment.Current rider performance assessment methods are both highly subjective and inconsistent. In addition they do not adequately prepare riders with the three primary skills required for safe riding: braking swerving and riding curves. The inadequate skills testing results in a huge disparity in rider ability. The end result is that many riders are issued permits and licenses who arguably are ill prepared for the hazards that face them in a traffic environment.

The Motorcycle Operator Training Assessor (MOTA) is the world's first motorcycle specific training and testing system that is entirely based on objective data collection and analysis. MOTA aims to ensure that motorcycle riders are trained to a specific, predetermined level of competence prior to being allowed to ride on the road. MOTA will increase minimum rider competency and ultimately safety.

MOTA is in the final stages of development and is expected to be released for testing and evaluation in January 2008 and sales shortly after.
