Dr George Rechnitzer has been profiled by Forkilft News, a leading Australian materials handling site. Dr Rechnitzer has researched forklift safety since 1992, whilst he was at the Monash University Accident Research Centre. When asked about his research projects into forklifts safety:
“The key findings were the need to segregate pedestrian workers from forklifts, and that facility design did not include proper traffic management recognising that forklifts were heavy, hazardous vehicles,” Rechnitzer said.
“The recommendations eventually resulted in further major Victorian WorkCover Authority (VWA)-funded work, resulting in various VWA guides for traffic management and facility design to segregate pedestrians from hazardous forklift interactions, and development of intelligent forklift safety systems.” The systems included speed control, automatic detection and alert systems, and physical barriers.
DVExperts remains active in all aspects of workplace-safety investigation and research.
